Becky Lynch didn’t just step away from WWE — she did it with support from Triple H that kept her getting paid the entire time.
While appearing on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Lynch opened up about her time away from WWE between May 2024 and April 2025 and revealed that she originally planned to take a short break due to exhaustion and creative frustration. According to Lynch, she didn’t plan to leave WWE or explore other options — she just needed time to reset. When she told Paul “Triple H” Levesque about her decision, she said he responded in a way she didn’t expect.
“I told Hunter, I said, ‘Look, I’m stepping away. I’m not going anywhere else, but I just need some time.’ And he was great about it. He was like, ‘Hey, okay, all right, look, but let’s just extend your contract so you can at least get paid.’ Which was just so nice of him.”
Lynch explained that she reassured Triple H she wasn’t planning to sign anywhere else and even joked about making a promise to stay loyal during her break.
“So I was like, ‘I’m not going anywhere. I promise, pinky promise.’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, but you might as well get paid while you’re doing it.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, all right.’ So that was very nice. And I thought it would be like three months. It ended up being a little bit longer than three months. 10 months, I think it ended up being.”
Originally expecting only a short break, Lynch ended up staying away far longer than planned. The extended time off allowed her to rest from a demanding schedule that included wrestling regularly, raising her daughter while traveling, and working on her book. During the hiatus, Lynch also explored acting opportunities, including appearing on the Paramount Plus series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
Now, Lynch is fully back in the spotlight and heading into one of the biggest matches of WrestleMania 42 weekend. She is scheduled to challenge AJ Lee for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship on night one of the event.
Do you think Triple H made the right call by extending Becky Lynch’s contract while she was away, or should WWE handle breaks like that differently? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
