Becky Lynch has opened up about one of the darkest periods of her life, revealing that her postpartum depression didn’t begin after giving birth to her daughter Roux—it started more than two years later, after she stopped breastfeeding.

Speaking on the Happy Mum podcast, the WWE star admitted she expected she might experience postpartum depression shortly after becoming a mother. Instead, she said the symptoms didn’t appear until she weaned Roux after breastfeeding for more than two years, leaving her confused about what was happening.

“The hardship only came… I mean, you know, all the—you don’t sleep as much and blah, blah, blah, and there’s hard little hard things—but it wasn’t until… and I had figured I’d probably be inclined to get postpartum depression, but nobody had told me that you can get it after you’re done breastfeeding.”

Becky Lynch said she had breastfed Roux for over two years before her mood suddenly changed almost overnight. The former Women’s World Champion said the depression became so severe that she felt like all the color had disappeared from her life.

“Yeah. I breastfed for over two years. Really? Yeah. So then when she’s over two and then I weaned her and all of a sudden, like, I’m so low and I was like, ‘What is happening?’ Like… I had no idea until somebody had told me. They were like, ‘Oh yeah, I got it after I weaned my daughter off.’ And then she became just such a source of support for me that I didn’t realize that that could happen. It was just sort of a low mood? Uh, yeah, but like very low. And like I remember describing it as like I couldn’t see colors. Like everything just felt gray and dull and I had no hope. I didn’t want to get out of bed in the morning. I didn’t want to exist. Like I was just so low. And like anything that went wrong went super wrong.”

The experience also affected the way she saw herself and even her relationship with her husband, fellow WWE star Seth Rollins. Looking back, Becky said one of the hardest parts was that the battle was happening entirely inside her own mind, making it difficult for anyone else to understand what she was going through.

“Yeah… like I didn’t feel worthy of my husband, like all of that stuff. And I guess not knowing why you felt like that… it’s really scary. It was scary because it’s in your head. No one else can hear those things that you are saying to yourself, that your mind is telling you.”

Thankfully, Becky eventually found something that worked. She revealed that acupuncture, along with natural supplements, helped her gradually recover, saying she began feeling like herself again after just a few treatments, although the overall recovery took around six months.

“I think within like three or four sessions, it’s like the sun came out. Like I could see the blue in the sky… and then I was back. But, you know, I think it took about six months. But yeah, just not being aware that it could happen two years after.”

By sharing her experience, Becky hopes more people become aware that postpartum depression doesn’t always happen immediately after childbirth. In her case, it arrived years later, and understanding what she was going through ultimately became the first step toward getting her life back.
