Baron Corbin found a dirty way to keep the WWE United States Championship on the August 7 episode of SmackDown, blasting Trick Williams with the title belt behind the referee’s back to steal the victory.

Williams received his SummerSlam rematch against Corbin and had the crowd firmly behind him as he tried to regain the championship. He came close several times, including after connecting with a Trick Shot, but Corbin managed to grab the bottom rope before the referee could finish the count.

The match eventually spilled into controversy when Corbin went outside and grabbed the United States Championship. The referee initially stopped him from using it, allowing Williams to hit a Book End for another near fall.

Corbin wasn’t done cheating.

After rolling back outside, Corbin grabbed the championship again while Williams looked through the ropes. With the referee unable to see what was happening, Corbin smashed Williams with the title belt.

Corbin immediately capitalized and scored the pinfall, retaining the United States Championship by knocking Trick Williams out with the very belt they were fighting over.

Williams came painfully close to reclaiming the title, but Corbin made sure the rematch ended on his terms.
