“You’re right, Conrad. S*** happens, things happen. Uh, unfortunately, um, it did happen. But man, you’ve already said it—Bryce, Doc Sampson, the whole community, the truck, the way it was shot—it is now, um, you know, you go back, and I don’t want to get into dark things, but how the industry has progressed on how we deal with sudden, uh, in-ring injuries.”
Jarrett then shared what it was like behind the curtain after Borden was taken out of the arena. He revealed he was backstage when medical personnel wheeled Sting’s son toward the waiting ambulance, and said the mood immediately became eerie as everyone tried to clear a path.
“And man, unfortunate. I am so glad—uh, Conrad, I was backstage when they wheeled him by on the ambulance, and it’s an eerie feeling backstage. It just—that kind of feeling when you have someone strapped down on a gurney.”
People are a little bit of chaos backstage. Get out of the way because you’re rolling over cables and all that kind of stuff.
Yeah, and you’re having to move and make a way and this and get him out the back door and get him in an ambulance and literally ambulance out the door.”
Even after spending decades in wrestling, Jarrett admitted there’s no way to truly prepare yourself for seeing something like that happen. He said moments like Borden’s injury serve as a reality check for everyone in the business.
“You’re never fully prepared for that. “But man, uh, that is a real reality check of the industry we’re in.”
Thankfully, the story ended on a positive note. Tony Khan later confirmed that Borden’s medical tests came back clear following the incident, but Jarrett’s comments offered a look at what fans didn’t see once the cameras stopped rolling. While everyone inside the arena was hoping for good news, those backstage were simply hoping to see one of their own safely make it out of the building.
