Austin Creed has explained exactly why he and Kofi Kingston are now going by The New Level following their shocking AEW debut. According to Creed, the name isn’t just about starting over in a new company—it represents the level of competition they believe they’re bringing to professional wrestling.
Creed and Kingston addressed their new identity during the post-AEW All In media scrum after an unbelievable first night with the company. The former New Day members debuted at Wembley Stadium, aligned with Swerve Strickland and immediately became AEW World Trios Champions.
With so much changing at once, Creed was asked how they landed on The New Level. He explained that the name worked on several fronts, especially with both men entering a completely different stage of their careers.
“Well, honestly, it works with every type of situation. We ourselves are on a new level and are bringing a new level of competition to professional wrestling. This new level is called ‘New Level.’”
Creed also pointed out how naturally the name fit with their arrival in AEW. As far as he’s concerned, everything lined up too perfectly for them to go in another direction.
“It makes perfect sense, as well as AEW. So it all fell into place. There is nothing called coincidence. So when we realized that, that’s the direction that we had to go.”
The explanation comes after Swerve offered his own meaning behind the name following their championship victory. He called all three men history makers and declared that nobody was above them because they represented “the highest level” and now “the new level.”
Kingston and Creed certainly didn’t waste any time backing that name up. They were revealed as Swerve’s mystery partners during the Trios Roulette match and won the AEW World Trios Championships on their very first night in the company.
Creed also made it clear afterwards that their ambitions aren’t limited to the trios division. He warned that there wasn’t a better trio or duo in AEW, immediately opening the door for Kingston and Creed to eventually chase tag team gold as well.
For two wrestlers who spent years defined by one of WWE’s most recognizable group names, choosing their next identity was always going to matter. The New Level is their way of making it clear that this isn’t supposed to be a recreation of what Kingston and Creed did before—it’s the beginning of something different in AEW.
