Anna Jay has been hoping for months that she wouldn’t need surgery, but that plan is officially off the table. After spending weeks meeting with different doctors and surgeons, the AEW star has confirmed she’ll be going under the knife sooner rather than later.

Speaking during her Twitch stream, Jay shared the disappointing update with fans and revealed she’ll be having shoulder surgery within the next week or two. She explained that the delay wasn’t because she was hiding anything—it was because she wanted to make absolutely sure surgery was the right call before committing to it.

“I’ll give you guys the update. It’s a little unfortunate, but I do have to have shoulder surgery. It’s gonna be — I’m gonna have it in the next week or two. So, unfortunately, I did not wanna have surgery. But the reason it’s taken me so long is because I’ve gotten multiple opinions from multiple doctors and surgeons — and different surgeons — just to make sure I’m making the right choice and the best for my shoulder.”

The news marks the latest chapter in an injury situation that’s been dragging on since the summer. Back in July, Tony Khan revealed that AEW had actually been planning to bring Jay back to television before the shoulder injury forced those plans to be scrapped. He also confirmed she’d signed a new contract extension and would remain with the company long-term despite being sidelined.

Jay later addressed the injury herself, revealing that the issue involved the same shoulder that had bothered her in the past. At the time, she said she was still gathering opinions from specialists because she wanted to avoid rushing into surgery if there was another option available.

Unfortunately, after speaking with multiple doctors, surgery ended up being the recommendation she kept hearing. While it’s obviously not the outcome Jay was hoping for, she’s now moving forward with the procedure in hopes of fixing the problem properly instead of risking even bigger issues down the road.

It’s a frustrating setback for the 28-year-old, especially after AEW had plans for her return before the injury got in the way. How long Jay will be out after surgery remains to be seen, but at least fans finally have a clear answer after months of uncertainty surrounding her shoulder.

How big of a loss has Anna Jay’s absence been for AEW’s women’s division? Let us know in the comments.
