Anna Jay has locked down her future with AEW, but her return to the ring is now being held up by another shoulder problem.
During the AEW Redemption media call, Tony Khan confirmed that Jay recently extended her contract with the company. He also revealed that AEW had hoped to bring her back to television before an injury forced those plans to be put on hold. Khan said Jay remained in good standing with the company and had recently undergone an MRI.
“Anna is in very good standing with us. Anna is out injured right now. I was hoping to book her in recent weeks, and she has an injury. Last week, she was going for an MRI.”
Khan then ended any lingering questions about Jay’s contract by confirming that she has plenty of time remaining on her new deal.
“She is in good standing and has a lot of time left. She’s extended her contract with AEW. She is going to be staying in AEW.”
Jay later addressed the injury herself during a Twitch stream. She confirmed that the issue is real but said she is still visiting doctors and getting different opinions before deciding what comes next.
“Yes, the injury thing is true. I don’t really know the extent of it. I’m going to a few doctors right now just to get everything checked out, just to get a few different opinions so I make the right choice. But hopefully it’s not as bad as it possibly can be. It could be okay.”
Jay then revealed that the injury involves her shoulder, which has already caused her trouble in the past. She wants to explore every option before choosing a treatment plan. The 28-year-old also pushed back against fans claiming she is constantly injured. Jay said she has only dealt with two injuries during her time with AEW.
“My injury, it’s to do with my shoulder, which I’ve had some issues in the past with, so that’s why I just want to get a few different opinions and hopefully it’ll be okay.”
“Also, people are like, ‘She’s always injured.’ I’ve had two injuries while at AEW, my shoulder and my ribs being dislocated. That’s it.”
Jay previously confirmed that her old AEW contract was nearing its expiration, but she dismissed nearly everything else being said about her situation at the time.
“The only thing out of everything that’s been posted that’s true is just that my contract is coming up, but that is it.”
Anna Jay has not wrestled since the June 6 episode of AEW Collision in Youngstown, Ohio, where she teamed with Tay Melo in a loss to Lena Kross and Megan Bayne. Her contract situation is settled, but there is still no timetable for her return while doctors determine how serious the shoulder injury is.
