Amazing Red’s wild TNA comeback isn’t stopping with the X-Division Championship. Just 10 days after walking into Bound For Glory as a Hall of Famer and walking out with the title, Red has reportedly signed with the company for another run.
According to PWInsider, Amazing Red has officially signed with TNA Wrestling and committed to the promotion. TNA hasn’t announced the deal publicly yet, but the report states that everything is done.
“TNA Hall of Famer The Amazing Red, who won the X-Division Championship at Bound for Glory earlier this month, has officially signed with the promotion, PWInsiderElite.com can confirm. The promotion has yet to officially announce the deal, but we can confirm it is done and Red has committed to the promotion.”
That’s a pretty big development considering Red’s Bound For Glory appearance initially looked like it could be a special one-night deal. He was there to be inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame, but during his speech, Red suddenly announced that he was entering the vacant X-Division Championship match later that night.
Red didn’t just show up for the nostalgia pop either. He hit KC Navarro with the Code Red, got the three-count and became X-Division Champion for the fourth time in his career. The belt had been left vacant after Leon Slater exercised Option C to challenge Nic Nemeth for the TNA World Championship. Red’s surprise entry turned the originally planned six-man match into a seven-man scramble, and he ended up leaving with the championship.
The whole thing was already a crazy full-circle moment for Red. Before Bound For Glory, he hadn’t held the X-Division Championship since September 25, 2010, putting more than 16 years between his previous reign and his latest one.
Red has remained busy outside TNA as well, running House of Glory Wrestling in New York City alongside Brian XL. The 44-year-old has been part of the wrestling scene since the independent boom of the early 2000s, including the early days of Ring of Honor, while his TNA history also includes an NWA Tag Team Championship run with Jerry Lynn.
So much for Bound For Glory being a nostalgia appearance. Amazing Red went from Hall of Fame inductee to champion in a matter of hours, and now he’s reportedly sticking around to see where this comeback goes next.
