Dominik Mysterio has been AAA Mega Champion for essentially an entire year, but the title hasn’t exactly been working overtime. With another defense coming up at TripleMania 34 Night Two, an alarming statistic shows just how rarely Dirty Dom has actually put the championship on the line.
Dominik defeated El Hijo del Vikingo to win the AAA Mega Championship at WWE x AAA Worlds Collide in Las Vegas on September 12, 2025. Almost exactly one year later, he is set to defend the title against the current El Grande Americano at TripleMania 34 Night Two. Yet despite holding AAA’s top championship for nearly a full calendar year, Dominik has only defended it three times.
His first successful defense came against Dragon Lee at AAA Héroes Inmortales 2025. He later retained against former champion Vikingo at AAA Rey de Reyes 2026 before successfully defending the title against the original El Grande Americano earlier this year.
That means Dominik is approaching the one-year mark as champion with just three successful defenses under his belt. Even after facing the current El Grande Americano at TripleMania, the number will only rise to four if he successfully retains.
It’s a surprising statistic for someone who has spent the past year carrying AAA’s biggest championship, especially with Dominik becoming an increasingly prominent part of the promotion following WWE’s acquisition of AAA.
TripleMania now gives him an opportunity to add another defense to the list, but there’s also no guarantee his reign even makes it beyond the weekend. El Grande Americano could make defense number four the night Dominik’s year-long run finally comes to an end.
