AJ Mendez has learned how to spot the warning signs when her mental health starts shifting, and she says CM Punk knows what that means now.

During her appearance on State Of Mind with Maurice Benard, AJ talked about waking up in a low cycle and knowing right away that it is going to be one of her harder days. She said she has a name for those moments.

“Oh yeah. I named it like my dark days. I’ll wake up and I know it’s like a low cycle and I’ll tell my husband and I warn him.”

AJ said Punk has learned the language around her mental health and knows how to respond when she tells him something is off.

“He’s very open to it and knows the language of it now where he’s just like, okay, what do you need? Like, how do we make this day better?”

Mendez also said those feelings do not always show up out of nowhere in the morning. Sometimes, she can feel them coming the night before.

“But you just sometimes wake up like that, or I’ll go to bed and I know the next day, like I’m feeling it already.”

AJ described peace as something that can feel rare when managing bipolar disorder, because she is constantly trying to stay balanced.

“Just like the idea of a stasis, that is peace, and that can be so rare. So much you’re sort of riding that wave and trying to not go up too much or down.”

AJ and CM Punk have always kept most of their private life out of the spotlight, but this gave fans a rare look at how they communicate behind the scenes. For AJ, being able to warn Punk when a dark day is coming appears to be a big part of managing it.
