Swerve Strickland apparently had a spot waiting for him at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium. Now that plan looks to be dead.
Speaking during the August 11 edition of Self Made Sessions, Self Made Pro revealed that AEW had previously discussed putting Swerve into a tag team match at Wembley, but the particular match he heard about is no longer believed to be in the cards.
“What I do know is at one point a tag match was discussed for him at Wembley. I don’t think the one that was discussed that I heard about is in the cards anymore.”
That’s a pretty big change considering Swerve has been missing from AEW television since June. His last appearance came at Forbidden Door, where Will Ospreay defeated him in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Final. Since then, one of AEW’s biggest stars has essentially vanished while the company moves closer to one of its biggest shows of the year.
There was apparently supposed to be something waiting for him. We had reported back in July that AEW had creative planned for both Swerve and Hangman Page heading toward All In, despite neither former World Champion being advertised for Redemption at the time.
Whatever was being discussed for Swerve apparently hasn’t survived intact. Self Made Pro also revealed that AEW recently held another conversation about what to do with Swerve, this time in Detroit. He wasn’t given details about where that discussion ultimately went.
“I was told that a conversation was held about what to do with him in Detroit. I don’t know what came out of that.”
That leaves Swerve in a strange position. AEW had creative planned for him heading toward Wembley. A tag match was discussed. That particular idea now appears to have been dropped, and another conversation has already taken place about what comes next.
The good news is AEW clearly hasn’t forgotten about Swerve Strickland. The interesting part is that whatever the company originally envisioned for Wembley apparently isn’t the plan anymore.
