AEW’s habit of staying silent on major talent issues is creating more problems than it’s solving. The latest example? Rey Fenix’s cryptic post on social media, which has fans speculating about his future with the company—while AEW refuses to say a word.
Fenix shared an image of himself in a straitjacket, a not-so-subtle hint at feeling trapped under contract. This comes after reports that he’s frustrated with AEW, with Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer calling out the company’s complete lack of damage control.
“When it comes to any talent issue, AEW just ignores it, says nothing, and then the issue ends up getting bigger,” Meltzer stated.
Meltzer went even further, stressing that AEW’s refusal to handle these problems proactively is actively hurting their overall business. “I just don’t think they understand that the negative perception of the company that they’ve ignored is a key reason for the decline in interest.”
And it’s not just Fenix. From CM Punk’s chaotic exit to Andrade’s contract drama, AEW has a history of letting speculation run wild instead of stepping in and controlling the narrative. WWE, by comparison, gets ahead of these situations, but AEW’s refusal to comment only fuels negativity and rumors about internal instability.
AEW can only stay silent for so long before the narrative spins completely out of control. Whether it’s Rey Fenix, CM Punk, or countless other talent disputes, ignoring the issue doesn’t make it go away—it just makes things messier. At some point, Tony Khan has to step up and start managing these situations before they blow up.
Will AEW finally learn from its mistakes, or will they keep letting speculation do all the talking? Let us know what you think in the comments!
