Nyla Rose hasn’t been on AEW television in a long time, but that doesn’t mean she’s been sitting at home. After more than a year away from AEW programming, the former Women’s World Champion has finally revealed what she’s been doing behind the scenes—and it turns out she’s still very much involved with the company.
During a virtual signing for K & S WrestleFest on August 8, Rose was asked what she’s been up to while away from television. She revealed that, in addition to wrestling around the world, she’s also been helping out backstage in AEW.
“Mostly, a little bit of backstage, behind the scenes stuff—that front with AEW—but yeah, I’ve been side questing, turning up on the indies, tour of Japan. People say, ‘Where were you in Japan?’ I was in Japan. We were all over Japan. Up, down the Eastern, going into the West. If they have a Midwest, we were out there. We were everywhere in Japan, with my tag team partner Nightshade from the UK.”
Rose’s comments provide the first real update in quite some time about her role within AEW. While she hasn’t been appearing on Dynamite or Collision, she’s remained busy working independent shows, touring Japan alongside Nightshade, and contributing behind the scenes for AEW.
Her absence has been a frequent topic among fans. Earlier this summer, AEW’s Pride Month post was flooded with replies asking why one of the company’s most recognizable LGBTQ+ stars was still missing from television. That came after reports noted even people within AEW weren’t sure why Rose had disappeared from weekly programming.
Rose still hasn’t revealed when—or if—she’ll be returning to AEW television, but her comments make one thing clear: she’s never actually stepped away from the company. Even while away from the cameras, she’s continued working behind the scenes while staying active in the ring everywhere else.
