WWE Hall of Famer ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin is one of the most iconic names in the history of professional wrestling and he has been part of so many incredible moments that shaped the course of the business. Austin has also remained bald for the majority of his career and life afterwards and he has now revealed the reason for that.

The Texas Rattlesnake single-handedly ushered in the Attitude Era and ensured that he would become the face of that particular era. Steve Austin’s iconic bald head is synonymous with pro wrestling but he also used to have hair during his time as “Stunning” Steve Austin.

While speaking on WrestlingRambles, Steve Austin was asked why he shaves his head bald. Steve Austin explained that he shaved his head because he was actually going bald. He started losing his hair, noticing a widow’s peak, when he was around 24 or 25 years old while wrestling in WCW. Realizing that if he tried to grow his hair back now, it would look odd, he decided shaving it was the best option. With respect to those who prefer to keep their hair despite hair loss, Austin felt he would look “stupid as hell” if he did the same.

Looking back, he feels that going bald was one of the best things to happen to him. When he was “Stunning” Steve Austin at the start of his career, he had a full head of hair and a decent physique. But as “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, the bald look became essential to his iconic image. Occasionally, fans ask him about it, though he jokes that he doesn’t carry around a photo album showing off his long, blonde hair from his twenties. For him, shaving his head wasn’t just practical—it was part of embracing the “Stone Cold” persona.

“Why does Steve Austin shave his head? Because the mother******’s going bald. I started losing my hair — widow’s peak — when I was 24, 25 years old down here in WCW. I saw the writing on the wall. If I tried to grow my hair back right now, I’d look like an idiot. With all due respect to people losing their hair who won’t cut it, I would look stupid as hell.

So, shaving my head — the fact that I was going bald — turned out to be the best thing that could have ever happened to me. Because as ‘Stunning’ Steve Austin, you know, back in my day when I first got into the business, I was actually a pretty good-looking cat with a decent physique. But when I turned into ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, that hair would have never worked.

Every now and then, someone will tweet me about it. It’s not like I carry around a photo album of my career and say, ‘Here’s a picture of me when I was 26 and had a head full of long, blonde, beautiful hair.’ So, yeah, I shaved my head because I’m going bald. And for all practical purposes, I am bald.”

Steve Austin also recently revealed that he needs knee replacement surgery. After hinting at making his in-ring return at WrestleMania 41, only time will tell whether The Texas Rattlesnake will actually compete at the event, as it would mean he would have to delay his surgery.
