MJF had fueled fan speculation with his “bidding war of 2024” claim, hinting he might join whichever company made the highest offer when his AEW contract ended. However, rather than entertaining offers from other companies, MJF surprised fans by quietly signing a high-paying, long-term contract with AEW, putting an end to the drama.
MJF’s absence from AEW television earlier this year, combined with his previous statements, led to tons of speculation about his next move and possibility of him joining WWE. However, he made his return in grand fashion at Double or Nothing, putting to rest rumors of him jumping ship.
At the Entertainment X Sports Expo, MJF was asked by a fan to take a picture holding a WWE Universal Championship replica belt. He did it but looked like he wasn’t too happy about it and then tossed the belt aside afterward.
A fan took to Twitter and mentioned that he could have held that title for real if he had gone to WWE, saying, “You’d have that by now if you’d jumped ship.”MJF agreed with the fan as he said, “IK,” making it clear he believes he could have been the WWE Champion had he jumped ship.
Fightful Select reported that MJF is not appearing live on AEW shows because he is busy filming for upcoming movies and other projects. This makes sense as The Salt of the Earth is still shooting scenes for ”Happy Gilmore 2.’‘ Regardless, we’ll have to wait and see when MJF will return to AEW television physically, as it’s clear he will continue his feud with Adam Cole heading into Full Gear this month.
