Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks during her time in WWE, established herself as a prominent figure in the wrestling world. She achieved considerable success in WWE, winning every available championship during her tenure. However, since departing from the company, she has alleged that she felt restricted during her time there.

Mercedes Mone notably walked out of WWE in May 2022, alongside Naomi. Her departure was reportedly attributed to creative frustrations and concerns about her position within the women’s division.

While speaking to The Ringer, Mercedes Mone talked about her departure from WWE a couple of years ago. Mone claimed that she didn’t like being handcuffed in WWE and wanted to change that and so she eventually made her way to AEW.

“I don’t like being handcuffed. The only place to grow is with change, and I needed that change. My mission statement is to make women’s wrestling globalized here in AEW, and I want to accomplish so many things here. I want to wrestle the best.”

Interestingly enough, Mercedes Mone also stated that she would return to WWE one day but there’s no guarantee that will happen anytime soon. Regardless, Mone is currently focused on her TBS Championship match against Willow Nightingale at AEW Double or Nothing on May 26th, so we’ll have to see whether she will be able to dethrone Nightingale as the champion.
