The Backlash Premium Live Event in Lyon-Decines, France, held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, left fans excited throughout the night and made them beg for more events in France. While it did break records in a good way, it appears the event also set an all-time low company record.

In case you missed it, it was announced that the WWE Backlash Premium Live Event had achieved a historic milestone, boasting the largest gate of any arena show in WWE history.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed metrics of success for WWE’s recent show in France, suggesting it fell short in public interest despite a strong live crowd.

“The last WWE show, the show from France as far as interest levels with the public – got the Google number, got the PPV number, it’s very clear that this show for whatever reason, this show did not have much interest as compared to a normal WWE show.”

Meltzer also shared insights into WWE Backlash numbers, where he noted that the Premium Live Event actually got the lowest Google searches for any WWE Premium Live Event. He added that lowest in history for a WWE show as far as Premium Live Event buys were concerned.

The Google searches were the lowest for any WWE pay-per-view I’ve ever seen, 100,000.

It’s early, so the first week number it’s gonna grow but the first week number it was like 3700.

“Financially a WWE PPV number doesn’t mean anything, because most of the people are going to be watching on Peacock, but the one thing a PPV number can tell you is how much interest is there, and this one was down 39% from the same period leading into the Chamber show, which was the Perth show.

“It was the lowest in history for a WWE show as far as PPV buys and it looks to be by a significant margin.”

We will have to wait and see whether WWE’s next International Live Event will end up surpassing what Backlash did and then some, as WWE is definitely on a hot streak right now.
