AJ Styles is widely regarded as one of the best pro wrestlers in the world by both fans and his peers. He is set for a huge title match against Cody Rhodes today and he has now revealed his true feelings about the bout ahead of Backlash.
The upcoming match between AJ Styles and Cody Rhodes at Backlash will be for the Undisputed WWE Championship and it’s also Rhodes’ first official title defense to boot.
This also represents the first time Styles has competed in a singles match for a world title since Night of Champions 2023, where he faced Seth Rollins in a contest for the newly created World Heavyweight Championship. To sweeten things up, it’s the first time Styles and Rhodes are going to face each other in the ring.
In a recent interview with Shakiel Mahjouri, The Phenomenal One discussed his upcoming match with Rhodes, expressing excitement about their first-time matchup for good reason.
“Well, it’s definitely new. That’s always good, especially when you’ve been doing it for 25 years, that likely doesn’t happen. When I got to WWE, Cody was there. He left and now he’s back, we never had that opportunity to get in the ring with each other. He’s such a star right now, it’s ridiculous. It’s fun to be in the same ring, doing it for the first time, and it’s in a different country. It ranks pretty high up there.”
In preparation for the bout, AJ Styles underwent an intense physical workout routine. Regardless, we’ll have to wait and see how The American Nightmare will fare against AJ Styles during the Backlash Premium Live Event, as there is certainly a ton of hype for the bout now.
