Nearly a month has passed since WrestleMania 40 and the event continues to generate headlines in the wrestling world. However, one notable absence from the event that remains a topic of discussion is “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s, particularly during the Night Two main event which featured numerous other prominent appearances.

Jim Ross, a longtime friend of Austin, recently offered his thoughts on this matter in a recent episode of “Grilling JR.” Ross pointed to two likely factors, financial considerations and creative differences as potential reasons for Austin’s absence.

“The reason is twofold,” Ross said. “Cash and creative.”

According to Ross, Austin is particularly selective about his opponents and the storyline direction, factors that likely contributed to his absence from the event’s main event. While Ross admitted he hadn’t spoken to Austin recently, he speculated on how Austin’s presence could have impacted the event, especially during moments celebrating other wrestling icons.

“Austin is probably the most particular guy as far as who he wrestles as anybody I’ve ever been around,” Ross explained. “He knows what will accomplish the best results as an in-ring product and then of course, [there’s] the cash.”

“There was a spot there at the end where all those guys are getting their flowers,” he reasoned, “that would have fit Steve perfectly. He would have been a great cherry on the sundae.”

Regarding future WWE involvement for Austin, co-host Conrad Thompson raised the possibility that Austin’s rivalry with The Rock, who is now involved with TKO Holdings, might impact his return. Ross, however, downplayed this notion, emphasizing the mutual respect between Austin and The Rock.

“I don’t know if that’s a big deal or not,” he said. “They get along. They were very instrumental in the other’s career and the growth of those careers, so I don’t know if one thing has to do with another. You might be right. I can see your logic. I just don’t think it applies here in this particular situation.”

Despite Austin’s absence, Ross commended WWE for the WrestleMania 40 finale, noting its well-executed surprises and overall entertainment value. He praised WWE for bringing together various wrestling legends and said he’s happy with the management of the event, despite the absence of “The Rattlesnake.”
