Gunther’s reign as the WWE Intercontinental Champion, which started in June 2022, was remarkable, making history as the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion ever. With that said, Gunther admitted that he didn’t enjoy Vince McMahon’s vision of WWE.

In a recent interview with Gorilla Position, the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history discussed his success and how it might have played out differently under the previous Vince McMahon regime. The wrestler was asked if he thought he would have the same opportunity to make history if the old regime were still in control.

“I don’t know, but it was one of the reasons why, for a long time I didn’t want to go to the US. The product before Triple H was not what I enjoyed. I just didn’t want to be part of that. I am who I am and that’s what I can do best. A big part of that is I need to have my time in the ring and have that time to put on the matches I can put on. That chance would not be there under the old regime.”

Gunther’s record-setting Intercontinental Title reign has solidified his place among the elite talents in WWE, and he attributes much of his success to Creative Content Officer Triple H. In a recent interview, he discussed how Triple H’s vision played a crucial role in his journey within WWE, acknowledging that he was fortunate to have his support and guidance at a pivotal time in his career.

“With Triple H, he always saw that in me, and he always had that vision for me. I got lucky that a lot of things in my career took place at the right time. It was a little bit of a leap of faith when I first made the move over. Everything worked out in the end.”

Gunther was on RAW this week as Giovanni Vinci was kicked out of Imperium. It was revealed that both Ludwig Kaiser and Gunther are expected to continue working together on WWE shows, so we’ll have to see how WWE will book them in the coming weeks.
