CM Punk’s entrance into AEW created considerable excitement, suggesting a promising new chapter in his career. However, his tenure with the company took an unforeseen downturn with his release last year, marking a disappointing turn of events. In a recent disclosure, Punk has criticized Tony Khan, stating that he does not consider him a true boss.

In 2021, CM Punk made significant impact by joining AEW, swiftly becoming central figure in the promotion. His crowning achievement came at Double or Nothing 2022 when he secured the AEW World Championship. However, his reign was plagued by injuries, including torn triceps, following the controversial Brawl Out incident at AEW All Out 2022.

During his appearance on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Punk was pressed for details about the notorious backstage altercation. While Punk expressed reluctance to delve into specifics, he emphasized that he has no qualms about discussing the matter openly.

“I don’t think I can [discuss it], but I didn’t have to sign an NDA for anything I did wrong… I have nothing to hide, and I don’t give a s***.”

One year after joining AEW under Tony Khan’s guidance, the Brawl Out incident irreversibly altered Punk’s perception of Khan. In the interview, Punk candidly assessed the AEW President and stated that he is detrimental to AEW.

“He’s not a boss. He’s a nice guy. And I think ultimately that is a detriment to the company. But it’s not my company. I’m an outsider.”

CM Punk claimed that he had two contracts with AEW. Nevertheless, it is not surprising to see CM Punk’s actions as he no longer wants to associate himself with AEW at all.
