CM Punk has had one of the most remarkable wrestling careers, particularly in WWE with some exciting WrestleMania bouts under his belt, despite never competing in the main event of the show, being his lifelong dream.

The Best in the World’s journey of competing on the Grandest Stage of them all began years ago, but it was in 2010 at WrestleMania 26 when CM Punk made his singles debut against WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio.

The two men had been embroiled in a heated rivalry leading up to WrestleMania, with a huge stipulation that would have seen Rey Mysterio join CM Punk’s Straight Edge Society as a member, should he have lost to him.

Despite a highly anticipated match between then-rising star CM Punk and luchador legend Rey Mysterio, the match was a relatively short affair at The Show of Shows. During recent conversation with Randy Orton in a recent video released by WWE, Punk revealed that some mishaps occurred with Rey Mysterio’s apparatus that shot him to the stage, leading to their match time getting cut.

“This is my second singles match at Mania. Prior I wrestled Rey. I wrestled Rey and Rey got caught in his apparatus that shot him to the stage. [Wow] We got our time like [Wow], Slashed.”

Nevertheless, their rivalry was surely one of the most memorable feuds of all time. With CM Punk currently injured and serving as guest commentator for the Seth Rollins vs Drew McIntyre match at WrestleMania 40, it could be interesting to reignite the rivalry between Punk and Mysterio leading to one more dance at a major WWE PLE.
