At WrestleMania 32, Kevin Owens found himself in the spotlight, defending his WWE Intercontinental Championship in a ladder match against a stacked lineup of competitors including Zack Ryder (Matt Cardona), Dolph Ziggler (Nic Nemeth), The Miz, Sami Zayn, Sin Cara, and Stardust (Cody Rhodes).

However, behind the scenes, there was discussion about a different direction for Owens at the grand event. According to Owens himself, WWE floated the idea of pitting him against none other than The Undertaker during a conversation with Joe Baiamonte of WrestleSphere.

“I think things just shifted and that was the year that Shane McMahon returned, so obviously at the time, my standing in the company compared to Shane McMahon coming back after all those years, the thought was probably ‘Shane McMahon versus The Undertaker is a huge match.

I know it was on the table and it was heavily discussed and it would have been amazing. My first WrestleMania, to be in there with The Undertaker, would have been sweet. It didn’t happen, but I’ve been in the ring with him. I was actually in the ring with him in the main event of a Madison Square Garden show, so I got to do that with him which was really cool,” Owens shared.

While the encounter with The Undertaker at WrestleMania didn’t materialize, Owens has left an indelible mark on the WrestleMania stage with other memorable moments. From headlining night one of WrestleMania 38 against Steve Austin to teaming up with Sami Zayn to secure the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships against The Usos (Jimmy Uso & Jey Uso) at WrestleMania 39, Owens has etched his name in WrestleMania history.

Looking ahead, Owens is gearing up for another WrestleMania moment, set to challenge Logan Paul for the WWE United States Championship in a triple threat match that also includes Randy Orton at WrestleMania 40.
