Matt Hardy has had a remarkable career filled with notable achievements across various wrestling promotions spanning several decades. As his contract expiration approaches, indications suggest that Hardy is currently engaged in discussions with AEW.

Matt Hardy’s debut in AEW in March 2020 coincided with the onset of the pandemic. Initially, there was an anticipation that his contract would align with that of his brother, Jeff Hardy, upon the latter’s potential arrival in AEW. However, due to various factors including injuries and periods of inactivity, their contracts did not synchronize, resulting in an extension of Matt Hardy’s contract.

It was reported that Matt Hardy’s contract was going to expire in March this year, something that Matt Hardy would also confirm recently. Since then, fans wondered if he was going to stick with AEW in the end.

While speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, the veteran provided an update on his contract status, stating that he is still in talks with AEW when it comes to negotiations.

“I do love AEW,” Hardy said. “There’s some things I would like to change about my personal career there in some of the things we’re doing, but I do say overall I love AEW because it is very important for the pro wrestling industry. AEW needs to do well just because the pro wrestling industry doesn’t need just one huge company that’s in control of everything. They need competition. Competition is what makes it thrive and what makes it better. For all the young kids coming up, competition needs to exist.”

I want AEW to do well and I want AEW to thrive, but I want to be in a satisfactory position in what I’m doing in AEW. That’s kind of where we’re at, you know, still negotiating and figuring things out. Tony Khan is taking great care of me. He has been a good boss. I think Tony Khan is a great human being, but at the end of the day when it comes for me making the decision about what I do next, it also comes down to making sure that I’m happy and that I’m comfortable with what I’m doing too in all capacities across the board.”

Matt Hardy recently made it clear that he’s not retiring from active wrestling any time soon. The future of Hardy’s wrestling career in AEW remains uncertain, leaving fans curious about what lies ahead for the veteran wrestler.
