Veteran professional wrestling announcer Kevin Kelly, known for his work with various promotions including WWE, ROH, and NJPW, has recently stirred controversy with a series of tweets following his replacement on AEW commentary.

Kelly, who has intermittently stepped away for other commitments such as the G1 Climax 33 tournament last year, voiced his frustration at being sidelined once again.

In his Twitter rant, Kelly expressed feeling undervalued by AEW, attributing his absence from commentary to what he deemed as libelous remarks made by Ian Riccaboni. He stated, “But the idea of what I bring to the table is lost there because Ian libeled me. So I sit on the bench, valued by my peers, waiting to get my number called.

Furthermore, Kelly boldly asserted his superiority as a commentator, urging fans to seek confirmation from those in the industry: “I keep asking why but get pushed aside. It’s ok because there is no one better than me. Ask the ones that know and they’ll tell you.

The crux of Kelly’s grievance stemmed from Riccaboni allegedly mischaracterizing his efforts to raise awareness about child trafficking as a fringe conspiracy theory. Kelly vehemently refuted this characterization, labeling it as libel: “When you go out of your way to intentionally mischaracterize my raising awareness of the global horrors of child trafficking to a fringe conspiracy theory that everyone knows is bull*** in order to hurt my career and standing in the industry, that at the very least is libelous.*”

While some fans argue that Kelly may not meet AEW’s standards as a commentator, the outcome of this controversy remains uncertain. Kelly’s outburst has sparked debate among wrestling fans, inviting opinions on the validity of his claims and the handling of his situation within AEW.
