Randy Orton Thought Triple H Was Messing With Him When Told About CM Punk’s WWE Return

Randy Orton made his shocking return at Survivor Series back in November last year and in the months since then, firmly established himself as one of the top Superstars in WWE again. He wasn’t the only major return as CM Punk came back at the end of the show as well. Interestingly enough, Orton thought Triple H was messing with him when he was told about Punk’s WWE comeback.

CM Punk’s return at the Survivor Series Premium Live Event sent shockwaves across the world of professional wrestling thanks to its sheer electricity. Naturally, no one could have imagined this was possible.

In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Randy Orton reflected on his return to WWE Survivor Series. He mentioned that the company brought him back earlier than planned due to the spoilers surrounding CM Punk’s surprise return.

“I was supposed to be a surprise in WarGames at Survivor Series,” explained Orton. “All these CM Punk rumors started a month prior, and everyone thought–since we were in Chicago for Survivor Series–that CM Punk would be the surprise. So they had Cody a week before WarGames say that he had a friend–me–that was going to come. The surprise was spoiled all because Punk was rumored to be there, and WWE didn’t want people to be pissed.”

Orton then recounted how Triple H informed him about CM Punk’s return before the match. Initially, Orton thought Triple H was joking, but the WWE Chief Content Officer explained that it came together quickly.

“The day of Survivor Series, I’m about to get my boots on, I’m feeling the nerves, it had been a year-and-a-half. Triple H is like, ‘Hey Randy, I’ve got to talk to you for a second.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, what’s up, man?’ So he told me a couple things. And then he went, ‘One more thing–Punk’s returning tonight.’ I thought he was messing with me. I said, ‘You’re joking,’ and he was like, ‘No, I’m not. This is something that just happened in the last few days, yada yada yada.”

CM Punk and Randy Orton even shared moment after Punk came back at Survivor Series. Punk is currently out of action due to a triceps injury, so we will have to wait and see when he will return.
