During last week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, a match between Carmelo Hayes and Austin Theory took shocking turn when a botched fall took place off the top rope. While Hayes didn’t get hurt, it appears Theory ended up suffering a concussion.

The referee signaled for the “X” position, indicating a potential injury, and waved off the match. It was reported that both wrestlers suffered facial contusions as a result of the spot.

Carmelo Hayes made a return to action during the latest episode of NXT, while Theory is still sidelined. According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Theory sustained a concussion due to a botched spot.

”Theory and Hayes were both hurt on a spot on the 1/12 Smackdown show in Lincoln, NE. Theory gave Hayes a downward spiral off the ropes and both landed badly.

Theory ended up with a concussion and Hayes was shaken up, but Hayes was able to wrestle on NXT on Tuesday in the tag match.”

On the January 16 episode of NXT, Hayes and Trick Williams joined forces to secure victory over Edris Enofe & Malik Blade in the opening round of the 2024 Dusty Rhodes Tag-Team Classic.

Pro wrestling is always dangerous and Theory’s injury is simply nothing more than an accident. We will have to wait and see when Austin Theory will be able to make his return to in-ring competition following the unfortunate mishap.
