WWE introduced a new idea before the December 15th episode of SmackDown. WWE Speed is now a thing, but that was a bit of a surprise for people backstage.

Prior to the start of SmackDown on December 15th, fans who showed up early were presented with the introduction of the WWE Speed Match. This unique match features a five-minute time limit, requiring Superstars to act swiftly to secure a victory.

Two of these ‘Speed Matches’ took place on December 15th, with Bronson Reed facing NXT Superstar Nathan Frazer in the first bout.

It was noted behind Fightful’s paywall that Fightful’s Corey Brennan was told that many working WWE Smackdown didn’t even know WWE Speed was happening until shortly before the show.
