The LWO faced major split following Santos Escobar’s shocking heel turn. Escobar’s betrayal was aimed at writing off WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio from television, allowing him to focus on recovering from a significant injury requiring surgery.

Rey Mysterio had been closely associated with Santos Escobar and other LWO members, notably Carlito. However, a rift emerged between Mysterio and Escobar when Mysterio believed that he was leaning towards Carlito’s side. This tension culminated in a dramatic attack by Escobar on an episode of SmackDown.

With Mysterio expected to be sidelined for several weeks due to his surgery, Carlito is gearing up for a showdown with Escobar in a singles match at Saturday’s Survivor Series event.

In the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer shed light on the original plan for the LWO split. Initially, the idea was for Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro to remain aligned with Escobar and engage in a feud against Rey, Carlito, and a third yet-to-be-revealed wrestler.

Meltzer speculated that based on WWE’s current television direction, Dragon Lee could be the third person in this equation. WWE might be grooming Lee to follow in Mysterio’s footsteps, with the long-term plan possibly involving Mysterio endorsing Lee.

Meltzer also mentioned a potential change in the LWO roster, with The Garzas now scheduled to replace Wilde and Del Toro on Escobar’s side. There’s even some speculation about Lopez, who had a history with Escobar in NXT, joining this faction to feud with Vega, although this remains unconfirmed.

The LWO’s future promises to be intriguing as WWE continues to weave its storytelling magic in the wrestling world.
