The Undertaker took his final bow in a memorable fashion at WrestleMania 36. In an unconventional cinematic Boneyard match against AJ Styles, thanks to the pandemic, Undertaker closed a chapter of his storied career. He officially announced his retirement later that year.

A grand ceremony was held in his honor at Survivor Series 2020, aptly titled the “Final Farewell.” However, there was a little disagreement between Undertaker and WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. Vince, in his usual fashion, didn’t want the Undertaker to utter the word “retirement.”

“In November, that was one of those times where Vince and I butted heads. My retirement. He wouldn’t let me say retirement. ‘It’s time for the Undertaker to rest in peace.’ In full character. I have these guys, all in the ring, but I’m going to be in my full character. It was like, yuck,” Undertaker revealed on his Six Feet Under podcast.

Undertaker stood firm on his decision not to return to the ring for an official match after WrestleMania 36.

While he has made guest appearances on WWE TV, like his memorable visit to NXT on October 10, he has remained true to his word of not stepping back into the squared circle for a proper bout.

The Deadman’s legacy lives on, and wrestling fans around the world continue to show their respect and admiration for the iconic figure.
