AEW fired CM Punk from his contract after a backstage brawl at All In London broke out between himself and Jack Perry. Punk hasn’t appeared anywhere else yet, but he’s having a lot of fun with the possibility.

AEW is presently running an angle with a masked devil character, and many fans have theories about who is under the mask. Bully Ray speculated that it may be CM Punk, and others have favored that idea.

While it may be a far-fetched idea that CM Punk is under the devil mask, the Second City Savior may have heard that theory. He jumped on Instagram and posted a story with a masked man on WCW television. The caption he threw on there furthered the cryptic tease.

Who was behind the mask?”

While some fans are under the impression that AEW could bring CM Punk back as the devil, others are hoping he goes back to WWE. Some fans have their reason to believe that either is happening.

There were CM Punk chants heard during WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. CM Punk chants also popped up during Shinsuke Nakamura vs Akira Tozawa’s match on RAW. That being said, WWE realizes that fans are chanting for CM Punk. That doesn’t mean WWE is any closer to inking a new deal with CM Punk.

Ringside News exclusively reported that the internal narrative is that fan response will not generate interest within the company for CM Punk to make his return. Also, Ringside News exclusively reported that WWE creative was never told anything about his return. That has not changed, despite the fact that CM Punk is having a lot of fun with the idea that he may make a return.

We will have to see what CM Punk decides to do next. He is obviously in an interesting situation, but that won’t stop Pepsi Phil from having a little fun on social media.

What’s your take on CM Punk possibly coming back to WWE, or landing elsewhere? Would he be a benefit to WWE if they brought him back? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
