Britt Baker Says CM Punk Will Always Be Part of AEW’s Story After Firing

CM Punk’s fairy tale AEW run ended in a nightmare as he was ultimately fired by the company back in September. While many consider him toxic and a cancer in pro wrestling, Britt Baker isn’t one of them. In fact, she stated that CM Punk will always be a part of AEW’s story after his firing.

CM Punk and Jack Perry had been suspended following their backstage confrontation at AEW All In, which eventually led to Tony Khan firing CM Punk. Khan would then provide the reason behind Punk’s firing.

While speaking on Maggie & Perloff, Britt Baker was asked about CM Punk’s time in the company. The former AEW Women’s Champion stated that CM Punk will always be a part of AEW’s story and no one can take that out of the wrestling books.

”CM Punk coming back to wrestling was one of the most historical things in All Elite Wrestling history and always will be. You can’t take that out of the wrestling books. I’m really thankful we got to work with CM Punk. I learned some stuff from him, he was always really helpful and willing to work with younger talent. It didn’t work out, it wasn’t a fit, but it’s always going to be part of the AEW story. It’s just that chapter is closed now. Everyone wishes him well, we hope and think he wishes AEW well too. It just didn’t work out. At the end of the day, how cool was it that CM Punk was in wrestling again for AEW and got to wrestle in Chicago again?

I don’t know where he’s at mentally. I think wrestlers always have that itch. Once it’s in your blood, it’s in there, and no matter how much you want to stay away, it’s hard to stay away. He came back after seven years. I think if the time, place, and company is right, I think he would.”

WWE also doesn’t view signing CM Punk the same level as Cody Rhodes from last year. Eric Bischoff also warned CM Punk that the clock is ticking on his in-ring career. We’ll have to wait and see whether Punk will return to WWE, as Survivor Series is just around the corner.
