AEW fired CM Punk, and Tony Khan knew that fans needed to hear it from him. This week’s Collision, a show that was started with a ton of CM Punk promotion attached, addressed this release as the show started.
Tonight’s AEW Collision in Chicago arrived after the surprising announcement of CM Punk’s release following his actions at All In. Chicago fans also had an interesting chant for Punk before the show started.
Tony Khan started off the show by directly addressing Punk’s release, shedding light on the challenging nature of the decision. He shared that it came after consulting external legal counsel and a disciplinary committee, both of which strongly advised Punk’s departure. Khan emphasized that, for the first time at a wrestling event, he felt a genuine sense of danger, with Punk’s actions potentially endangering other individuals on the show who were uninvolved in his altercation with Jack Perry.
AEW also replaced CM Punk at AEW All Out. His scheduled match with Ricky Starks is going to another star, and arguably a bigger one.
We will keep our eye on this story, right here at Ringside News. A lot of things could go down in AEW before All Out rolls around, and we will be with you ever step of the way.
