The Undertaker put his body on the line for the enjoyment of fans and most of them always appreciated that. That said, he was also burned very badly after a botched pyro several years ago. The Deadman has now revealed that he had warned the employee about the pyro beforehand.

During the 2010 Elimination Chamber match, The Phenom made his way down to the ring ahead of the match. Pyrotechnics were supposed to shoot fire around him as part of his entrance. However, the pyro got botched and the fire got caught up in The Deadman’s sleeve and hat, leading him to get severe burns.

While speaking on Feet Under with Mark Calaway, The Deadman revealed that he had warned the WWE employee beforehand that the pyro was too close to him, which the employee promptly didn’t listen to.

I told the guy [during rehearsals], I said, ‘The pyro is too close to me.’ He came back with, ‘No, I think it was just a draft in the building.’ The person that was responsible was not in the arena by the time that match was over, we’ll put it that way, nor have I seen that person since.

There was a flame ball on my hat and on my sleeve, so I shook that stuff as quick as I could. I continued that pace all the way to the ring. I get into the pod, they [WWE referees] were asking me if I was okay. I was just telling them, ‘Get me water,’ so they were handing me bottles of water and I was pouring them on myself. I’m looking down and I can smell the burnt flesh.”.”

The Undertaker still competed in the match despite his severe burns, which is a testament to how dedicated he was to professional wrestling. The Deadman is now retired and enjoying life after WWE and that is what he is focused on right now.
