WWE makes a lot of plans, but sometimes things don’t play out on camera as they write them on paper. Vince McMahon was famous for changing his mind, and now we have an example of one thing that never panned out for Brock Lesnar.

Mace, and his tag team partner, Mansoor, shared insights about their tenure with WWE and answered questions from fans during the Reddit AMA. While the duo is perhaps most recognized for their run as the Maximum Male Models, it’s interesting to note that Mace made his initial WWE appearance as a commentator on 205 Live and later on Monday Night Raw.

Using the ring name Dio Maddin, Mace took on the role of a commentator for the Raw brand, serving in that capacity from September to November 2019. Unfortunately, his commentary stint came to an abrupt end due to an incident involving the then WWE Champion, Brock Lesnar.

Mace was asked about this particular interaction, along with a follow-up tweet in which he mentioned his intention to ‘retire’ Brock Lesnar. In response, Mace provided clarity on the situation, shedding light on what he was told his plans were after The Beast mauled him on RAW.

“Ha. So when it happened, they told me I’d just be back on commentary next week. Then they told me (as I was boarding a plane to the UK) that I would be selling it for a week. Then another. Then another.

Then they said they were going in a new direction with the commentary team. The tweet was me desperately trying to not get sent back to the PC like Mufasa falling to his death.

“Although as I understand it, a match was discussed, but Vince said it would be confusing to the audience because they didn’t know I wrestled. I was later told they changed directions because I was too big for commentary, so I eagerly awaited my big push.”

Now that he is no longer with WWE, he can openly discuss his experiences and insights regarding the company. This glimpse into the behind-the-scenes workings of a wrestling storyline gives fans a deeper understanding of how such angles are planned and executed in the world of WWE.

We will have to see what happens next for Mace and Mansoor. They still seem to be doing things as a team, but Mace took that Brock Lesnar beating on his own.
