WWE Had Different Initial Idea For Heath Slater’s Return

WWE has released many people over the past few years. The pandemic saw a lot of firings, and some of them were surprising cuts. Despite his veteran status on the roster, Heath Slater was one of those releases, but he made return to WWE for a segment with Drew McIntyre on RAW with zero fans present.

In the notes on Fightful’s paywall from Sean Sapp’s upcoming interview with Heath Slater, it was noted that WWE had different plans for Heath Slater’s short return to the company following his release.

Drew McIntyre was on a WWE World Title storyline at the time, and Heath Slater showed up to really add some history to things. This was supposed to include a bit more, but Heath Slater only got a one-week return.

Heath told Fightful going back to the WWE shortly after his release to work with Drew McIntyre that he did not want to. He said it took Drew about a week and a half to talk him into it.

He said the WWE wanted him to do the WWE promo with Drew, work a match with Dolph Ziggler, and help Drew win a match. He said he ended up only doing the promo with Drew, and that was it.

Heath Slater had a long run in WWE before he was released during the pandemic. He didn’t want to make that return so soon, but he did it for his old stablemate Drew McIntyre.

We can only hope that that appearance on RAW won’t be the last time fans see him. He recently left Impact Wrestling, and while he holds no ill-will toward them, he is now a free agent. Only time will tell if his road sees him return to WWE.
