AEW was able to sign Adam Copeland to a contract, and he was a big surprise at WrestleDream. That moment took a bit of planning, but when did talks really start?

Adam Copeland already stated that his contract came together late in the game. He had to get his Alter Bridge entrance music all together in a hurry as well. His AEW debut went down at WrestleDream without any issues, and now we are in a new Rated R era for the company.

Tony Khan recently appeared on Maggie & Perloff, when he was asked when negotiations with Copeland began. He said that things started a little bit after September 20th, 2023’s Grand Slam event.

“Not long after AEW Grand Slam, we had Adam Copeland reach out, he was out of contract. He is one of the most popular and one of the most successful wrestlers of all time. To have Adam Copeland in AEW is a huge deal for us.”

Adam Copeland’s debut for AEW may not have brought about the immediate response with a viewership surge that Tony Khan may have wanted. He will be a full-time star with the company, and it will also likely be the last full-time deal of Copeland’s career. He will kick things off against Luchasarus on the October 10th episode of AEW Dynamite.

We will have to see what is in store for Adam Copeland in AEW. A storyline with Christian Cage is just beginning, and there could be plenty of uncensored moments to come for those two.
