Malakai Black signed a deal with AEW in July 2021 and he initially had a subpar run, as his only major singles feud was with Cody Rhodes. He is now a member of The House of Black alongside Buddy Matthews and Brody King. That said, Black has been absent from AEW television for a while now and it appears it is due to him dealing with a minor injury.

The House of Black lost the AEW World Trios Championships to The Acclaimed during AEW All In and afterwards, Malakai Black hasn’t been seen on AEW television. Many fans started getting concerned for Black.

Malakai Black took to his Instagram story and uploaded a couple of videos, where he addressed his absence from AEW television. Black shut down the notion he hasn’t been competing due to a bad back. Black revealed that he has been dealing with a slight calf tear and knee hyperextension, but is almost healed. Black promised fans he will be back sooner rather than later.

”About a year ago, I made a video about rehabbing a back injury I had and the video shows the process and I talk about overcoming the injury, strengthing etc. After the video was posted, people started running with the idea that ‘Oh he has a bad back and therefore A, B and C,’ which is not the case at all.

For some reason it has found its way back and the narrative is ”Well, he’s not had singles matches because he has a bad back, he nearly retired because of it.” That’s not true. Why I haven’t had singles matches? I don’t know, I think it’s because they wanted us as The House of Black to do six-mans.

I was also not in six-mans to hide said non-existing injury. Again, rest assured I do not have a bad back. The reason why I’m at home right now is due to a minor injury, which is I had a slight calf tear and hyperextension in my knee, which is almost nursed back and almost ready to go back on the road. I appreciate the concern, but the reality is I’m soon. You will see me sooner rather than later.”

Malakai Black also hasn’t competed in singles match in a very long time and it might be a while until that gets rectified. We will have to wait and see when Black will return to AEW television, as fans certainly miss him.

What’s your opinion on what Malakai Black said? Do you think AEW will have big plans for him once he is back? Let us know in the comments!
