Nigel McGuinness was one of the most exciting superstars to make a name for themselves in Ring of Honor. There were multiple teases for him to face off against his familiar foe Bryan Danielson in AEW, but it never happened. Now it appears the reason for the match never happening has been revealed.

McGuinness has provided commentary for both ROH and AEW Collision, but fans wondered whether he would actually return to the squared circle. After all, reports suggested that he had been taking measures to try to return to the ring.

That never happened as McGuiness confirmed a match with Bryan Danielson was not going to happen at AEW All In. While speaking with Metro, Nigel McGuiness confirmed that Bryan Danielson’s injury was what ultimately derailed his in-ring return.

“There was some scuttlebutts, some discussion backstage in the upper echelons,” he said about a potential match, “But as we know, ‘Clamdigger Brittle Danielson’ as he’s now being known decided to have to take a respite because he broke his arm, so now it’s not gonna happen.

I’ve enjoyed getting back in the ring. I am achy, always pulling this or pulling that. There’s not the slightest inclination or a desire to wrestle again. But the ability to do it, so that if I had to, I could’ve done it? That’s something I’m very proud.

‘I think it was one of those moments in the universe that you never could’ve seen, it was like a portal to an impossible reality. And when he gave up because he broke one of his 206 bones, even though he’s got 205 that are okay. He closed the portal. So he can go back to wherever he lives, dig up his clams, and live with that!’

Nigel McGuiness’ last match took place in December 2011, while his last televised bout was in September 2010 against Stevie Richards on TNA Xplosion. With Bryan Danielson set to end his full-time in-ring career by next year, we wonder if Danielson vs McGuiness can still happen.

What’s your view on what Nigel McGuiness said? Are you disappointed he and Bryan Danielson never faced each other again? Let us know in the comments!
