AEW brought in Jim Ross when he was one of the hottest free agents in the pro wrestling world. Cody Rhodes only needed to explain the reason why they signed him at the time as: “because he’s Jim f*cking Ross.” Now, it appears that Good ole JR’s time in AEW is winding down.

Jim Ross has been around AEW television since the company started, but it seems that his deal is running up. As of this writing, we have not heard about any new contract coming the WWE Hall of Famer’s way.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted how Jim Ross called the CM Punk vs Ricky Starks match for the Real AEW World Title. That was a bit of a surprise, because Jim Ross previously said that he was hoping for a return at August 27th’s All In London event.

The report also noted that Jim Ross does not have a lot of time left in AEW. It was reported that Ross’ deal expires in September.

Jim Ross returned on the 8/5 Collision. He only came out to do the main event of C.M. Punk vs. Ricky Starks. It was not announced ahead of time he’d be there, nor mentioned during the show until his music played. He’d previously said and told us he was targeting London as a hoped for date for his return but beat that by three weeks. His contract expires in September.

We will have to see if All In London is the final AEW event that Jim Ross is able to call. After all, All Out takes place in September, and his contract might already be expired at that point.

Keep checking back with Ringside News for more on this ongoing situation. Jim Ross certainly doesn’t want to retire, but he might move on to another employer, even going back to WWE if he can, but it all depends on what Tony Khan decides to do.
