Ilja Dragunov is one of the most talented NXT Superstars working the company’s developmental system today. That being said, he is coming off a huge match at the Great American Bash, where he lost to NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes. Although Dragunov is a standout performer, it might not be a good idea to expect him on the main roster any time soon.

Although Ilja Dragunov is incredible in the ring, and he has the ability to elevate anyone he works with, odds are he won’t be making the jump from NXT any time soon. During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Ilja Dragunov has those special skills, but it doesn’t mean he is getting a spot on RAW or SmackDown.

“Dragunov is a guy who isn’t going to the main roster any time soon. I can see him being a guy who goes to the main roster like Ciampa, but in NXT the guy can be — like you can put that guy with anybody and he will carry that person and elevate that person to the greatest match of their lives.”

Tommaso Ciampa is another guy who stuck around NXT for years after many thought he was ready to make a main roster jump. Now that Ciampa is finally on RAW, he is getting a chance to show the world what he can do, but it took an awfully long wait for that to happen.

Ilja Dragunov has a ton of potential, and he might even have an NXT Title run in his future. Only time will tell what happens with him after that, but his main roster call-up might not happen any time soon.

What’s your take on Ilja Dragunov in NXT? Should WWE call him up to the main roster? Sound off in the comments to let us know what you’re thinking!
