Marty Scurll was called out during the Speaking Out movement, as a terrible story from his past came to light. He was cancelled after that, and lost a chance with AEW. Now, he is back on the indies, but that doesn’t mean everyone is cool with it.
Tony Deppen has enjoyed a successful career in the wrestling industry, steadily climbing the ranks since his debut a decade ago. He notably worked for Ring of Honor before parting ways with the promotion.
Scheduled for an upcoming independent wrestling event on September 9th in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, at the Old Bischoff McDevitt High School, Deppen is set to showcase his skills alongside other notable names such as Flip Gordon, Enzo Amore, and Marty Scurll.
Scurll’s involvement in the event is particularly noteworthy due to his history with ROH. Prior to the Speaking Out movement in 2020, Scurll had been working for ROH but faced allegations of sexual assault dating back to 2015. Although he initially re-signed with ROH and even became the head booker, the promotion ultimately decided to part ways with him in January 2021 after conducting an investigation into the allegations.
Recently, former WWE star Anthony Carelli, known as Santino Marella, initially booked Marty Scurll for his Battle Arts Professional Wrestling promotion but later removed him from the lineup following public backlash.
Tony Deppen took to Twitter and he fired off a message. He refused to work the show, because Marty Scurll was present.
This has randomly been sprung on me. I was told I was working pcwa (place i got trained at) then I randomly get this as a flyer. I had no idea who was on the show (shows are normally low Budget); but after seeing the line up… yah no thanks
We will have to see if Marty Scurll is able to re-establish himself in the pro wrestling world. Odds are, this will be a very tough task at this rate.
