CM Punk was expected to be focal point in the AEW Collision announcement, but he wasn’t mentioned. An issue with AEW re-hiring Ace Steel, but not letting him show up to the building for their televised events didn’t sit right with Punk, and that reportedly caused the issue. This situation keeps getting more interesting as time goes on.

Ace Steel was fired for his part in Brawl Out. He bit Kenny Omega on the arm during that skirmish, and that was not a good look in the slightest. Now it appears that he is already back with the company.

Haus Of Wrestling reports that AEW actually re-hired Ace Steel “several months ago.” He hasn’t been working backstage for the company, but he has apparently been getting a paycheck.

Haus of Wrestling can confirm that Ace Steel was re-hired by AEW “several months ago” but has not been actively working in the backstage area. Steel was terminated by the company shortly after the locker room altercation following AEW: All Out but was re-hired shortly after.

CM Punk’s big hangup with his AEW return concerned Ace Steel. Tony Khan stated that Steel wasn’t allowed to attend Collision tapings, and that caused a rift in the deal. Only time will tell if AEW and CM Punk can work out a deal.

Ace Steel helped train CM Punk, and he had a lot of sway backstage in AEW with Punk. It’s apparent that CM Punk’s loyalty to Steel might have gotten in the way of his return to the company. This is also an ongoing situation that could change at any moment.
