Jay White had to make a choice between WWE and AEW, but he went with AEW. This is a big win in the eyes of Chris Jericho, who is obviously going to lean on the side of Tony Khan’s company.
The free agent pool in the pro wrestling world is a very interesting place. WWE is not on a hiring freeze, but they are also leaning toward signing talent they can cultivate into Superstars from NXT, and they are very selective about who they sign for an immediate main roster debut.
During Tim and Eli on Battleground, Chris Jericho spoke about AEW’s latest signing. Jay White has a lot to offer Tony Khan’s roster, and The Wizard sees it as a big sign that AEW’s momentum is still going strong.
“Jay White, what a great example of us still having momentum. Hottest free agent in the world. Silver platter for WWE. The guy is 6’4”, he’s international, he has the accent, which chicks love. He’s a great worker, great heel, great babyface. He chose AEW. If that doesn’t tell you that something is going on with us, I don’t know what will. Just to continue to build that momentum is a very exciting prospect,”
Ringside News exclusively reported that WWE is not in a hiring freeze. In fact, they hired some people in 2022 who haven’t even debuted on television. Jay White and WWE never got past preliminary talks. We also confirmed that WWE passed on signing Jay White, as they did with Nick Aldis and AOP, all for different reasons.
We’ll have to see what’s next for Jay White in AEW. He could have a returning AEW original signing return to team up with Ricky Starks to take him on. Keep it tuned with us at Ringside News for more on this, and every other story going on in the pro wrestling world.
