WWE presented SmackDown this week without Vince McMahon running the show in the building. It’s still his company, but Mr. McMahon had other things to do on the other coast.

Vince McMahon was in the Gorilla Position during WrestleMania, where he was not shy about giving his input. Then he showed up to the RAW after WrestleMania to rip up the script and change some segments on the fly during the show. That resulted in chaos backstage, and it was evident on television as well.

Sean Sapp noted behind Fightful’s paywall that Vince McMahon was already back on the East Coast by the time that SmackDown went live. He obviously didn’t feel like making the trip to Portland.

Vince McMahon was not at WWE Smackdown, and was back on the East Coast.

Even though Vince McMahon was across the country, that didn’t mean he had no power over the show. They ran SmackDown by Vince via a call before the show kicked off, and he made minor changes. Mr. McMahon made no major changes to SmackDown this week.

Backstage morale was reportedly much better without Vince McMahon at SmackDown as well. That being said, he can still show up whenever he likes, or even change the show while it’s in progress via a call. Vince McMahon is still really in charge of things, after all.

WWE and UFC’s merger will see Dana White remain in control of UFC, and Vince McMahon will be over WWE. That will also come with some hefty stock benefits once TKO goes live on Wall Street. Although Vince McMahon said he’s not going to get “in the weeds,” that obviously wasn’t the case on RAW this week. He was much more hands off on SmackDown, and the proof was seen on television.

What’s your take on Vince McMahon’s WWE return? Are they doing just fine without him? Sound off in the comments!
