Overseeing the greatest pro wrestling promotion in the world is no small feat. It takes attitude and a bit of ruthless aggression to bring and keep WWE at the top of the pro wrestling game. WWE chairman Vince McMahon was always ready to do what it takes to please the fans, even if it meant foregoing his own safety.

Mick Foley recently appeared on Foley is Pod to discuss a variety of topics. One of the topics that the WWE Hall of Famer discussed was the notorious “dumpster ride” he and Terry Funk took on a 1998 episode of Monday Night RAW courtesy of the New Age Outlaws.

It looks like the chairman of the company wanted in on the action. Foley revealed how he had to talk out McMahon from taking the bump during the iconic dumpster ride.

“Vince McMahon had to be talked out of taking the dumpster bump earlier in the day (laughing). He wanted to do it himself (laughing). I was like, Vince, you own and run this company. We don’t know what’s going to happen. What happens if you’re badly hurt? ‘Mick, I would never want any of you to do something that I wouldn’t be willing to.’ I pulled him over to the side, I was like, it’s my gimmick. You’ll kill my gimmick if you’re taking the same bumps.”

In hindsight, Foley was glad he talked the McMahon out of the bump. He felt that it wasn’t good enough to warrant the involvement of the WWE chairman.

“I’m glad he didn’t. Plus, if we’d seen how bad it looked… it didn’t look bad-bad, but it didn’t look good enough to merit the attention it received, where the show was essentially shut down almost, and people were crying as if they’d seen the last of us. Sunny did a great job of conveying her concern. It just would have been better suited for something that looked more devastating.”

Vince McMahon made headlines when he returned from retirement to resume the role of WWE chairman ahead of the sale of the company’s media rights. It seems his asking price is way above what the company is worth.

We will have to see what kind of headlines Vince McMahon makes next, but he’s likely done taking massive bumps at his age. Now his stunts are in the business world. For more updates, stay tuned to Ringside News.
