Michael Cole has been considered as the voice of WWE for 25 years now. He started out as a backstage interviewer and eventually moved his way up the corporate ladder. He’s seen a few broadcast partners in his career, but Cole also felt like he got kicked in the gut when Pat McAfee left.

Pat McAfee was working with Michael Cole, and it seemed like they meshed well for a long time now. Their chemistry continued improving every week, as fans were invested in what they said as well. Then McAfee took a break from WWE for football analyst obligations.

While speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Michael Cole admitted that he felt he got kicked in the gut when McAfee left to be ESPN’s College GameDay.

“I was disappointed. When we had that phone call that night, I was incredibly excited for you because obviously, GameDay is GameDay. But I hung up that night and it was like I got kicked in my gut right? Because we had developed this amazing chemistry.’

Then I thought about it for a little bit and I actually called my wife and she’s like, ‘You’re being incredibly selfish here to feel like that’ and I’m like ‘Yeah, Pat’s my buddy and he’s a real close friend of mine and this is incredible for him.’ Then obviously, we had the talk 24 hours later and then, we moved on and life’s good and hopefully we’ll see you back soon,

Michael Cole previously stated that Pat McAfee revitalized his career as well. Regardless, we will have to wait and see when McAfee will return to WWE television.
