Macho Man Randy Savage inspired a generation of pro wrestlers and fans alike. He quickly resurfaced in WCW when he left WWE in 1994 after his contract with the company expired. On October 31st, Savage made his last WWE television appearance.

A week later, on the November 7th episode of WWE Raw, Vince McMahon addressed the audience and Savage himself. It seemed like that was the end of it, as Savage later made his WCW debut on December 3rd of the same year during an episode of WCW Saturday Night.

It was unknown whether difficulties behind the scenes eventually contributed to the split of Savage and McMahon in the following years. As it turned out, it was not always the case. Simply put, Savage and McMahon wanted to go on different paths in this specific circumstance. The Macho Man wasn’t ready to stop competing entirely.

Although the actual video clip is not available anymore, Savage told IGN in 2000 that he didn’t want to retire just yet and shift into the commentator role full-time. That was exactly what WWE intended him to do at the time.

“They wanted me to do the commentary thing, which I will want to do someday. But I just wasn’t ready to take off my boots at that point. I’m glad I didn’t. It wasn’t anything but an attitude, or a direction, which the WWF was going, and they proved me to be 100% correct in where they were going, because they had a vision in where they were going. But at the same time, it didn’t work for me at that time. And I’m glad I made the move that I did, looking back, because I just wasn’t ready to do that. I have to do things because I want to, not because I have to.”

The “commentary thing”, however, never happened. On May 3rd, 2000, Savage made his last WCW appearance. He didn’t make another one before the company was shut down the following year.

Savage eventually signed up with TNA Wrestling in 2004, but left less than a month later because of a disagreement. Stay tuned to Ringside News for the latest updates.
