AEW has certainly come a long way after its inception back in 2019. They have strived to provide an alternative to WWE and succeeded in it for the most part. Tony Khan also commented on WWE releasing so many talented wrestlers.

Triple H was given the role as the top person in charge of WWE Creative after Vince McMahon’s retirement. It didn’t take long for The Game to introduce changes that fans approved of.

Prior to all this, AEW had released numerous talent from their contracts. Quite a few of them would eventually make their way to AEW as well. While speaking with Ariel Helwani, Tony Khan admitted that AEW and WWE are currently looking for the same thing in free agents. He added that all the WWE releases have greatly benefitted AEW.

“There’s probably a bit more similarity in what we’re looking for in terms of the profile of a free agent, which I think is already going to start being a thing. I think we’re looking at more similar people.

There was definitely something happening this year where there were wrestlers being released from there that came here that I definitely believe belong on national television that are huge stars in AEW. I think we were the benefit. The benefit of that was for AEW.”

Tony Khan will continue to believe that AEW will be proper competition to WWE and perhaps he will be right one day. However, that day is still far from happening right now.
