Andrade El Idolo was originally scheduled to meet Preston “10” Vance on this week’s “AEW Rampage.” However, the match has since been cancelled as a result of Andrade El Idolo being expelled from the venue on Wednesday following a backstage fight with Sammy Guevara. The former WWE Superstar was prepared to put his career on the line in that match, and The Dark Order star would have removed his mask if he had lost.
According to the most recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Tony Khan was the one who initially planned the match. AEW and El Idolo both intended to capitalize on the notoriety that would result from the rumors that he wants to leave. The plan was for the match to give the impression that he would lose and leave AEW.
He even made a joke about doing it on purpose simply to get out of his contract. Since there wasn’t much build-up to the event, the initial announcement of the stipulation caught everyone off guard. However, it was thought that it had to happen this week because otherwise, the public would have soon forgotten about El Idolo’s destiny.
It was deliberate to base the entire angle on social media and speculative content rather than anything on television. Ultimately, the battle will not take place since El Idolo’s future is now even more uncertain due to the confrontation he had with Guevara after their Twitter debate.
Since today is the anniversary of Brodie Lee’s last AEW match, Vance will still be competing. Instead, the AEW World Trios Championships match will pit The Dark Order vs Death Triangle. Stay tuned to Ringside News for the latest news and updates.
